Orpheus Descending

Val, a young man, guitar on his on back, questionable past clattering behind him, enters a quiet, homogenous town in the American South. He obtains a job at a dry goods store run by Lady, a middle aged woman with a dying husband. When Lady falls in love with Val the monotony of the town is broken by the unheard of passion that ensues, and the events that follow. Tennessee Williams gives new meaning to the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus in this play about trying to survive with passion in a world that feels like it is crumbling.
